Eternal Rome + The Catacombs + Lunch

Departure from Piazza Esquilino (Bus Terminal) through Venezia Square we will reach St. Peter’s Square (Visit) of the Square and St. Peter’s Basilica. The Saint Peter’s Basilica, was rebuilt in the XVI and XVII Centuries, the interior is decorated with thousands of gilt tesserae, prized marbles, Byzantine and baroque mosaics, the renowned Pieta by Michelangelo and Saint Peter’s Tomb.
The area of Piazza Navona follows the size and shape of the ancient Domitian’s Stadium of the Roman Era. Piazza Navona is longitudinally marked by the presence of three fountains, the side "Fountain of Neptune or Calderoni" and "Fountain of the Moor" by Giacomo della Porta, while the central "Fountain of the Four Rivers" was designed by Bernini. In front of this stands the church with a Greek cross of St. Agnes in Agone, which was completed in 1652 by Borromini.
The Pantheon, a real architectonical wonder of the Ancient Rome, also admired and studied by Michelangelo, which is also today it’s the burial place of Raffaello and of the Italian Kings (Visit).
Trevi Fountain a work masterpiece by Nicola Salvi (Visit). The tour ends here (drop off at the hotel not included).

On Religious Holidays the tour will be affected contractually.
On Wednesday due to the Papal Audience the Basilica will be visited only from outside.

The tour starts at the Esquilino Square with the visit of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major dating back to the V c. A.D. with its beautiful mosaics and the relic of the Crib of the Infant Jesus.

Next is the visit of the Basilica of Saint John Lateran, the cathedral of Rome, built under Constantine and renovated by Borromini in the XVII c., contains numerous columns and precious marbles, many taken from the Coliseum.
The Holy Staircase supposed to be the staircase of Pilate’s residence which Christ descended after His condemnation. It has been brought from Jerusalem to Rome by Saint Helena, mother of Constantine.
The Catacombs, the ancient underground cemeteries, testimony of the early Christians’ faith, these cover a length of 120 Km.

The Ancient Apian Way, built in 312 B.C., with the chapel of Domine Quo Vadis, the place of the apparition of Christ to Saint Peter.
